Transformed by naturally occurring fermentations this is a sauvignon blanc of considerable depth and opulence. The bouquet has the lushness of a lemon crème brûlée, with sweet vanillin notes infused with thyme and toasted sesame. The palate is generous and crammed with savoury complexity – a ‘wild child’ sauvignon that is rich and creamy with a
lingering chalky texture.

Taut, fresh Sauvignon Blanc with fine acidity and flavours suggesting gooseberry, green capsicum, mineral and lemon grass. Understated at first, the wine developed magnificently in the glass to reveal surprising power and flavour intensity. The best 2009 Sauvignon Blanc tasted to date.

Produced from grapes grown on a steep, terraced hillside in the Gimplett Gravels district of Hawk'e Bay. The wine is dense with ripe, spice and berryfruit flavours. Like the wines of the northern Rhone it is more about texture and complexity than intense fruit flavours. Good food wine with great potential. A very sophisticated Syrah.
