“Dominated by pencilly oak, there is plenty of vibrant and savoury red fruit; oaky on the palate, but time should see integration and a resultant cohesive product. Screwcap.” -91 points, James Halliday

“Has not dissimilar texture and weight to the standard shiraz, but much greater intensity to the cascade of black fruits which are beautifully tempered by savoury tannins to provide flavour and structural balance.

Produced from grapes grown on a steep, terraced hillside in the Gimplett Gravels district of Hawk'e Bay. The wine is dense with ripe, spice and berryfruit flavours. Like the wines of the northern Rhone it is more about texture and complexity than intense fruit flavours. Good food wine with great potential. A very sophisticated Syrah.

Attractive, supple wine with good floral, cherry and pepper characters. The wine , which includes a blend of Viognier, has good acidity, fine tannins and moderate length. A fairly serious Syrah with moderate cellaring potential.

Bright pink colour, with purple tints. Fresh nose of small and delicate red berries (blackcurrant, redcurrant and blackberry) and boiled sweets. Crisp on the palate, this easy-drinking wine is ideal throughout the meal.

''04 JH-89:Typical winery style, elegant and light to medium-bodied, belying its alcohol; red fruits, spices and fine tannins. – 89 points, James Halliday, 2004

Deep red. Vibrant, ripe fruits of the forest, violets and spice all framed by lovely toasty oak. A generous wine with a seamless structure, layered with supple ripe tannins, fleshy fruits and a warm lingering finish.

“Powerful purple colour; the same seamless flow of fruit, oak and tannins as in the preceding vintages; the flavours range through red cherry, blackberry, spice, pepper, tamed by lively acidity and fine tannins - 96 points, James Halliday,
