Tasting Note

the 2011 Baby Bush Mourvedre is scented of ripe blackberries and plums with underlying suggestions of loam, tar, black pepper and chargrilled meat. Medium-bodied, it gives a good amount of muscular fruit framed by crisp acid and a medium level of chewy, slightly astringent tannins, finishing long with a faint herbal lift.

Winery Info

Red five star winery. Hewitson was founded in 1998 by winemaker Dean Hewitson's driving passion to produce uniquely expressive wines from the great vineyards of South Australia's famous wine regions, known as The Adelaide Super Zone. Considered in the top echelon of Australian wineries, Hewitson is dedicated to producing traditionally-made and colorful wines.

Mourvèdre (also known as Mataró or Monastrell) is a red wine grape variety that is grown in many regions around the world. The variety can be a difficult grape to grow, preferring "its face in the hot sun and its feet in the water" meaning that it needs very warm weather, a low leaf to fruit ratio but adequate water or irrigation to produce intensely flavored fruit that is not overly jammy or herbaceous.
