Tedeschi seems to struggle achieving a consistent level of quality across all of their offerings. I found the simpler wines better balanced than the more important bottles. This may very well be a case of trying too hard, as the estate is clearly capable of making beautiful wines.

The 2007 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Capitel San Rocco is a beautiful, plump wine loaded with character. Smoke, black cherries, grilled herbs and spices come together beautifully in this juicy Valpolicella. The wine's inner perfume carries through nicely on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.

 Tedeschi's 2009 Soave Classico Capitel Tenda shows lovely clarity and nuance in its floral white peaches, apricots and minerals. This soft, delicate Soave offers gorgeous length on the palate, with clean, mineral notes that invite a second taste. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.

The color is deep and young. The nose is intense and fruity, with hints of red berries, cut hay, pepper and vanilla. In the mouth it is immediately pleasant and round, with a good structure and an excellent balance.  Good length with an Aromatic final. Easy to match with simple food, meat dishes and pasta.

A rather high-toned character on the nose here, with a spirity and foxy edge. The palate has fruit, flesh and overall an attractive composition. There is a lot of good substance, with piles of ripe, chewy tannins and firm acidity.

This is quite closed on the nose, giving just the sense of a warm and distant fruit. The same character is there on the palate, with a warm and gritty texture. Full, substantial, with good acidity and a nice chewy finish.

Ruby-red color with pale garnet tinges. Particular finesse in the bouquet, with balance and complexity, scents of ripe red fruit, spices and violets (typical of Nebbiolo). Mouth-filling tannins, excellent persistence on the palate.

Intense ruby-red color with purple tinges, a bouquet of fully ripe fruit, with an excellent dash of freshness. Tannins are prominent in the mouth, maintaining the classic Barbera backbone.
